Recycling Ideas

We are collating suggestions of items that people would like to see recycled locally. Currently the contents of blue bins are still being transported some 200 miles to be stored and eventually processed; many of the items thrown away could be useful to some enterprising people.

Blue sherry bottles, broken, make frost free mosaic.Old natural fibre carpets make a good mulch to suppress weeds.Tetrapaks can be turned into firelighters for those with open fires.Traditional furniture can be restored or sections salvaged to re-use.Used cooking oil for bio diesel.5 litre water bottles – mini cloches for gardeners and cut down make large storage for workshop use. Batteries to be collected in a box at Kilmore church. The primary school and Kilmore church are collecting stamps.Green tops off milk bottles are being collected by the primary school.Clothes can be collected and given to Blythewood or Rag Tag Textiles in Broadford, a textile bin is to be positioned in Armadale.Used black plastic silage bags can be collected and baled.Another local lady has worms to offer as a starter for worm compost bins. There is an unusual and interesting opportunity to produce items such as key rings, shelves, storage boxes etc. by recycling plastic bags.
